NBA Players Who Appeared on the Disney Channel

NBA players, when they’re not playing basketball, they’re rapping, if they’re not rapping their acting. In today’s episode, not that this is a TV show or anything, well be discussing NBA players appearing on the Disney Channel. Get ready for some cringe acting moments…

What NBA Basketball players made an appearance on a TV Show on the Disney Channel? A number of superstar players from the NBA, such as Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh, and Kyrie Irvin have appeared on teen sitcoms on the Disney Channel. All of these star players played themselves on shows like Suite Life On Deck, Jessie, Kicking it, and Mighty Med.

If you are wondering what their acting was like, let’s just say these guys aren’t quitting basketball anytime soon. Although I can definitely see Dwight Howard trying to pursue his acting career after basketball. Let’s take a look what shows each player starred on Disney.

Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and Kevin Love appear on “The Suite Life on Deck.”

The Suite Life on Deck is a teen show that takes place on a cruise ship that travels around the world.

The series follows twins Zack and Cody Martin, which without fail they find themselves in some kind of trouble that presents some kind of problem that they need to get out of.

In 2011 on an episode called Twister (Part 1 of 3), Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and Kevin Love appeared on the show playing themselves as basketball stars.

In the episode, the twins were challenged by the manager of the cruise ship Mr.Moseby to a 3 on 3 basketball game. Zack and Cody accepting the challenge while also laughing at the thought that Mr.Moseby could even play basketball or win with his team.

Mr. Moseby has a little brother that appears just in time as Zack is making fun of him. Zack believes Mr. Moseby’s little brother is just as small as Mr.Moseby. His little brother in question, is 7 foot tall Dwight Howard, who walks up behind Zack just in time to overhear him talking trash. Dwight’s friend’s none other than Derron Williams and Kevin Love follow behind.

Dwight Howard Appears on Mighty Med

The Suite Life On Deck wouldn’t be the only appearance that Dwight Howard would make on the Disney Channel. We have to remember the former MVP of the league played for the Orlando Magic for a portion of his career where he was one of the best in the game. Who wouldn’t want him on their TV show?

The premise of the show Mighty Med is two boys named Oliver and Kaz discover a secret entrance at the local hospital and find themselves at a superhero hospital called Mighty Med. They would become doctors and would work on injured superheroes while encountering super villains along the way.

In 2013 Dwight Howard appeared on one episode as the Super Defender. The episode revolved around pranks that caused major problems in the hospital leaving it in total chaos and disarray. Sounds like something Dwight Howard would do in real life if you ask me.

Chris Bosh makes an appearance on Jessie

The premise of  the show “Jessie” is she leaves the military base in Texas where she lives and moves to New York to become a nanny in a multimillion-dollar home. Not use to the big city, she embarks on many adventures with the family’s children, biting off way more than she can chew usually.

In 2012 Chris Bosh made an appearance while playing on the Miami Heat on an episode called “Say yes to the messy Dress“. Bosh, who Jessie says went to high school with, would encounter all sorts of problems when in town for a basketball game. Jessie would promise an appearance by Bosh to her friends while losing his favorite pair of lucky socks that he would wear to every basketball game.

Kyrie Irvin Appears on the Disney Show Kicking-it

Kickin-it is a kids martial arts TV sitcom that takes place in the local mall. Located in the mall is the Bobby Wassabi Martial Art School, which is known as the worse martial arts school among Bobby Wassabi chains. Jack a young and talented martial artist is asked to join and help run the school.

In 2012 Kyrie Irvin appears on an episode called “Sole Brothers”, two of the stars of the show Jack and Jerry get jobs at the shoe store just in time for Kyrie to promote his new shoe line in which he makes an appearance at the store.

Dwayne Wade appears on Austin & Ally 

The premise of the show? Austin and Ally are two best friends with two different musical tastes and are two different types of musicians. Austin being the singer and Ally being the songwriter. Austin over hears a song Ally wrote and is singing,  later Austin changed the tempo to the song that Ally wrote but doesn’t realize he is singing the same song. The song blows up and makes Austin famous.

In 2014 Dwayne Wade made an appearance playing himself on an episode of Austin and Ally called Fanatics and Favors. A character on the show named Dez has an unexpected relative who is Dwayne Wade. Keep in mind Dez, looks nothing like Wade. LOL.

Wade who is a huge fan of Austin, meets the crew and wants to pursue his dream of being a Pop Star, hoping he can do so with the help of Austin.

 

 

Chris Paul And Giannis Antetokounmpo Star in Future Biopic on Disney Plus

Disney now has its own streaming service like Netflix called Disney Plus. In December of 2020, they announced that they will be doing original movies on the lives of two NBA stars. Chris Paul and Giannis Antetokounmpo will be featured in a biopic that shows what it’s like to be an NBA Superstar. It should be interesting to see what approach they take with these films, there are already several good ones on Netflix that you should check out.
